Mexico started their World Cup campaign with an easy win against South Africa at the famous Azteca stadium. This victory gave local fans a happy break from the hard times on the city streets. Before the match, the area around the stadium felt like a huge street party. Lucky ticket holders walked through the gates, waving national flags and singing. They drank beer and enjoyed loud, traditional music on their way to the game. Once inside, the huge crowd cheered loudly as Mexico won the match comfortably. It was the perfect opening day for the home fans, who got to forget their daily worries and celebrate a great football game.
