Oyarzabal’s 25-minute blitz matches 1966 World Cup history
Spain’s Mikel Oyarzabal has become only the second player since 1966 to register three goal involvements in the first 25 minutes of a FIFA World Cup match.
Spain forward Mikel Oyarzabal secured his place in football history during Sunday’s World Cup Group H clash against Saudi Arabia.
The Real Sociedad captain was in devastating form, striking twice in quick succession after teammate Lamine Yamal opened the scoring. This relentless offensive display put La Roja into a dominant, early three-goal lead at the Atlanta Stadium.
The incredible blitz mirrored a legendary milestone not seen at the tournament for over four decades. Oyarzabal is now the first player since Hungary’s László Fazekas in 1982 to influence three goals within the opening 25 minutes of a World Cup game.
This historic achievement has firmly revitalized Spain’s tournament momentum following an opening-round stalemate against Cape Verde.
