Didier Deschamps sets all-time World Cup coaching wins record
Didier Deschamps has broken the all-time record for the most FIFA World Cup victories as a manager, reaching 17 career wins following France’s commanding 4-1 triumph over Norway.
France head coach Didier Deschamps etched his name indelibly into football folklore as Les Bleus’ 4-1 victory against Norway secured his 17th career World Cup win.
The historic milestone moves the 58-year-old tactician past legendary West Germany manager Helmut Schön, who held the previous record of 16 wins for nearly five decades. Deschamps achieved the feat with an incredible 77.3 percent tournament win ratio.
Remarkably, the record-breaking achievement occurred while Deschamps was away from the dugout, having temporarily returned to France following the tragic passing of his mother.
Assistant manager Guy Stéphan took charge of the technical area in Boston as an Ousmane Dembélé hat-trick inspired the victory. The flawless group campaign cements Deschamps’ legacy as the most successful manager in World Cup history.
