Morocco blanks co-hosts Canada 3-0 to reach World Cup quarter-finals
Morocco secured a historic, consecutive FIFA World Cup quarter-final appearance after defeating co-hosts Canada 3-0 in Houston on Saturday, courtesy of an Azzedine Ounahi brace and a late Soufiane Rahimi strike.
Morocco became the first nation to advance to the 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals following a decisive 3-0 victory over tournament co-hosts Canada at Houston Stadium on Saturday.
In a tightly contested Round of 16 encounter where clear-cut opportunities were scarce, the Atlas Lions capitalized on moments of brilliance to break the deadlock and dismantle the North American defense.
Midfielder Azzedine Ounahi broke the scoreless stalemate in the 50th minute, weaving a low set-piece delivery through heavy traffic to beat Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau.
Ounahi doubled the advantage in the 82nd minute by clinical counter-attack before substitute Soufiane Rahimi added a third in stoppage time.
The triumphant result ensures consecutive quarter-final appearances for Morocco, who now await their upcoming knockout opponent.
