Nemanja Vidic targeted in death threats by ex-Serbian FA Chief
Serbian prosecutors are investigating alleged death threats made by former FSS president Slavisa Kokeza against Nemanja Vidic after the former Manchester United captain criticized the country’s football administration.
Serbian prosecutors have launched an investigation into allegations that former Football Association of Serbia (FSS) president Slavisa Kokeza orchestrated threats against former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic.
An investigation by the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) and KRIK, utilizing decrypted messages from the Sky ECC communication service, revealed that Kokeza allegedly sought to monitor, intimidate, and physically assault Vidic after the defender publicly criticized the country’s football leadership following Serbia’s failure to qualify for Euro 2020.
The messages suggested Vidic should “stay away from the association or he will end up in a ditch” and even referenced him going “to the cemetery.”
Speaking to The Athletic, the 44-year-old Vidic admitted his initial reaction was sarcasm, saying, “Well, that will be interesting if I ever write a book,” before realizing the gravity of the threat.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organised Crime has since summoned Vidic to give a statement and requested the Ministry of Internal Affairs to compile all relevant Sky ECC communications, while Kokeza has not responded to requests for comment.
