Mbeumo brace leads Man United past Atletico in Stockholm
Bryan Mbeumo scored twice as Manchester United came from behind to beat Atletico Madrid 2-1 in Stockholm and win the Snapdragon Cup.
Manchester United came from behind to defeat Atletico Madrid 2-1 in Stockholm, with Bryan Mbeumo scoring both goals in a pre-season friendly at the Strawberry Arena.
The result earned United the Snapdragon Cup and continued their preparations for the new Premier League campaign under Michael Carrick.
Atletico took the lead in the fifth minute when Arnau Ortiz’s cross drifted into the net, leaving United trailing early. United created several first-half chances through Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro and Mbeumo but failed to equalise before the break.
Michael Carrick’s side improved after halftime and drew level when Mbeumo converted a penalty after Shea Lacey was fouled in the area.
The Cameroon forward then completed the comeback with a composed finish from Jack Fletcher’s cross with about 15 minutes remaining.
According to the Evening Standard, Carrick said he was “delighted” to remain in charge and wanted to take positives into next season.
The outlet also reported that midfielder Mason Mount continued to impress in his deeper role, while teenager JJ Gabriel made his senior debut during the closing stages of the match.
