RB Leipzig chief aims dig at Fabrizio Romano over Diomande saga
Marcel Schäfer has rejected claims that Yan Diomande’s move to Real Madrid is complete, in comments widely viewed as a swipe at Fabrizio Romano after the reported transfer failed to materialise.
RB Leipzig managing director Marcel Schäfer has appeared to take aim at transfer insider Fabrizio Romano by insisting Yan Diomande’s proposed move to Real Madrid is far from complete.
Schäfer said reports claiming the transfer was already agreed and accompanied by a “Here We Go” announcement were inaccurate, stressing negotiations have not reached that stage.
Romano had reported more than a week ago that the transfer was effectively done before later stating the highly-rated winger would undergo his medical in Madrid last week.
However, no medical took place and neither club has officially confirmed an agreement, while other journalists continued to report that negotiations over the transfer fee and deal structure remained ongoing.
Schäfer’s remarks have intensified scrutiny of the Diomande saga, with many interpreting them as a direct response to premature transfer updates circulating online.
Despite Real Madrid’s continued interest and optimism that an agreement can eventually be reached, Leipzig maintain that discussions are still active and no final deal has been concluded.
