Raheem Sterling set for Court date after M3 Lamborghini crash
Raheem Sterling is facing three charges after a single-vehicle crash on the M3, with the former England international due before magistrates next month.
Raheem Sterling is facing a new off-field setback after being charged with dangerous driving, possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen following a motorway crash in May.
The 31-year-old former England international is due to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on September 15 after the incident, which involved his Lamborghini on the southbound M3 near the Minley Interchange on May 28.
Police confirmed that no other vehicles were involved and that nobody was injured in the collision. The charges follow reports that motorists contacted emergency services after allegedly seeing Sterling’s vehicle moving erratically on the motorway before the crash.
Nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, has been classified as a Class C controlled substance in England and Wales since November 2023. Sterling’s latest legal issue comes during a difficult period in his football career, with the winger currently without a club after a brief spell at Feyenoord.
He joined the Dutch side in February following the early termination of his Chelsea contract and made eight league appearances, providing one assist before his short-term agreement expired at the end of the season.
Sterling previously enjoyed the most successful period of his career at Manchester City, where he won four Premier League titles and established himself as one of England’s leading attacking players.
His subsequent move to Chelsea in 2022 failed to produce the same consistency, while a loan spell at Arsenal followed before his eventual departure from Stamford Bridge.
He has not represented England since 2022 despite earning 82 international caps and scoring 20 goals.
The court proceedings now add another layer of uncertainty to the next stage of his career, although the charges remain allegations and Sterling has not been convicted of any offence.
