Barcelona’s plan for Dominik Livakovic has been complicated after Dinamo Zagreb reportedly requested a longer loan than the Catalan club is prepared to accept.
Barcelona’s plans for new goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic have encountered an unexpected complication, with Dinamo Zagreb reportedly changing the conditions of a proposed loan agreement for the Croatia international.
Barcelona have moved to secure the 31-year-old from Fenerbahce as part of their longer-term planning between the posts, with reports indicating the goalkeeper could eventually become part of the senior squad once Wojciech Szczesny’s contract expires.
The initial idea was for Livakovic to spend the 2026-27 campaign on loan at Dinamo, allowing him to play regularly before returning to Barcelona.
That arrangement appeared logical given his previous relationship with the Croatian club, where he established himself as a leading goalkeeper before moving to Fenerbahce in 2023.
Livakovic also returned to Dinamo on loan during the second half of last season, making the club a natural destination for another temporary spell.
However, reports now indicate Dinamo want the goalkeeper for two seasons rather than one, a proposal that does not fit Barcelona’s sporting timetable.
Barcelona’s recruitment strategy appears focused on ensuring Livakovic is available when the club expects to need him, making a two-year loan potentially problematic.
The situation leaves the Catalan giants with a decision to make as they look for a solution that protects both the player’s development and their future goalkeeping plans.
Livakovic’s arrival is nevertheless moving forward, with Barcelona understood to have agreed a relatively modest transfer package with Fenerbahce.
Reports earlier in the month suggested the deal would involve an initial payment of around €2 million plus additional bonuses.
The Croatian’s immediate destination remains the main unresolved issue, with Barcelona potentially needing to explore another loan arrangement if Dinamo refuse to accept a one-season agreement.
