Man United star hospitalized following serious multi-vehicle crash
Ahead of their match this weekend against Rizespor, Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana was taken to a local hospital on Thursday night following a high-speed, multi-vehicle traffic accident along the Yomra road near Trabzon.
The 30-year-old, who is currently on a season-long loan at Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor from Manchester United, was returning home shortly after keeping a clean sheet in his club’s UEFA Conference League victory against Scottish outfit Hearts.
Local reports indicate that the collision occurred as a chain-reaction event involving three automobiles. Another vehicle reportedly struck the rear of Onana’s car at high speed, forcing his vehicle into the car ahead and leaving substantial damage across both ends of his automobile.
Emergency services attended the scene, and Onana was transferred to a nearby medical facility for precautionary checks and evaluation regarding potential internal injuries or concussion.
Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan sought to reassure supporters by delivering an initial assessment of the player’s status shortly after the incident.
“Andre Onana was involved in a road traffic accident earlier this evening. There are no problems with him, and we wish him a speedy recovery,” Dogan said.
While the preliminary update remains positive, medical staff will continue to monitor the goalkeeper’s condition before clearing him to resume training.
Officials at parent club Manchester United are expected to maintain contact with Trabzonspor to track his progress and recovery prior to his return to competitive match action.
