BREAKING: Liverpool agree loan deal for Barcelona’s Ronald Araújo
Liverpool have reportedly reached a club-to-club agreement with Barcelona to sign Ronald Araújo on loan, in a surprise move for the Uruguay international.
Liverpool have reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Barcelona to sign Ronald Araújo on loan, according to the latest transfer update.
The agreement between the clubs has reportedly been approved by Barça sporting director Deco, paving the way for the Uruguayan defender to move to Anfield.
The proposed move would give Liverpool another high-level option at centre-back, with Araújo bringing considerable experience, physical strength and versatility.
The 27-year-old can operate centrally or at right-back and has established himself as an important Barcelona defender since breaking into the first team.
Barcelona’s official profile describes him as strong in the air and comfortable with the ball.Araújo’s position at Barcelona has become less straightforward recently.
After recovering from physical problems that disrupted his preparations for the 2026 World Cup, he returned to pre-season work and has featured in training.
Reports from Spain suggested Hansi Flick wanted to retain him but did not view him as an automatic starter, adding uncertainty to his immediate future.
Barcelona had also been reluctant to strengthen their centre-back options unless Araújo departed, with reports indicating that his exit could trigger a search for another experienced defender.
Araujo, who made over 200 appearances for Barcelona will help Liverpool make up for the loss of Ibrahima Konate, who departed for Real Madrid as a free agent earlier in the summer window.
