Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany hospitalized after collapsing in training
FC Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been hospitalized for comprehensive medical examinations after collapsing following a training session, with assistant staff taking temporary charge ahead of Sunday’s Bundesliga fixture against Freiburg.
FC Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany was rushed to the hospital on Friday after collapsing shortly after leading a team training session.
The 40-year-old Belgian manager is remaining under medical care to undergo a series of comprehensive physical examinations.
While Kompany receives treatment, Bayern’s assistant coaching staff will temporarily take charge of all upcoming squad training sessions and matchday preparations.
The incident comes just days after the manager suffered a bout with a viral infection, which had forced him to miss a press conference and a training session earlier in the week.
Despite his illness, Kompany returned to the touchline on Wednesday to guide his team during their 2-2 UEFA Champions League draw against Arsenal.
Speaking after that match, he conceded that he had tried to push through his symptoms rather than listening to his body’s warning signs.
Addressing the situation, sporting director Max Eberl emphasized that the club’s priority is the manager’s well-being and stated that he will be afforded as much time as necessary to make a full recovery.
“Vincent Kompany’s health is our top priority,” Eberl said. “We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure that he recovers quickly.”
“Vinnie will receive all the necessary medical care and support, as well as all the time he needs,” he added.
In a statement addressing the manager’s status, the club confirmed:
“Kompany will undergo comprehensive examinations at the hospital and remain under medical care. In the meantime, his coaching staff will manage training and match-related activities.”
Bayern Munich’s next scheduled fixture is a Bundesliga encounter against Freiburg on Sunday.
