Confusion over Sadio Mané’s Senegal future as sources deny retirement
Sources close to Sadio Mané have told journalist Gary Al-Smith that the forward has not retired from international football, despite widespread reports suggesting otherwise following Senegal’s World Cup exit.
Sadio Mané’s Senegal future remains in question after conflicting accounts emerged in the wake of the Lions of Teranga’s World Cup elimination.
According to Gary Al-Smith on X, sources close to Mané insist his post-tournament comments were only about Senegal needing to “stay united, to reflect and to come back stronger to win trophies,” not a farewell.
The sources maintain any formal retirement would be confirmed via Mané’s own channels.
This contrasts with reports from several outlets, including Le Quotidien, which quoted Mané discussing his willingness to serve Senegal “within the technical staff, on the coaching benches, or in management” — language widely interpreted elsewhere as a retirement statement.
