Spain end 44-year Bayern-Inter World Cup final streak
Spain defeated France 2-0 to reach the 2026 World Cup final and bring to an end the 44-year streak of both Bayern Munich and Inter Milan being represented in every World Cup final.
Spain booked their place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final with a commanding 2-0 victory over France in Arlington, ending Les Bleus’ hopes of a third straight final.
Mikel Oyarzabal’s first-half penalty and Pedro Porro’s second-half strike sealed the win as Luis de la Fuente’s side advanced to Sunday’s showpiece.
The result also ended a remarkable World Cup run dating back to 1982, where every final featured at least one player from both Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.
France’s squad included Bayern’s Michael Olise and Dayot Upamecano plus Inter’s Marcus Thuram, while Spain had none from either club. ESPN highlighted the streak, which will now continue for only one club depending on the England-Argentina semifinal.
