Arsenal Eye Blockbuster Vinicius Swoop as Real Madrid Contract Stalls
Arsenal have made an early move for one of world football’s biggest names. Reports out of England and Spain confirm the Premier League champions have opened contact over a possible deal for Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior, in what would be one of the most eye-catching transfers of the summer.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports Arsenal have made an initial, exploratory enquiry for the Brazilian, with the move said to have “broad support” inside the club. It’s early days, no talks have taken place between the two clubs, but Vinicius has reportedly emerged as Arsenal’s top wide-attacking target after missing out on Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, as they look to find a long-term successor to Gabriel Martinelli.
The timing isn’t a coincidence as Vinicius’s Real Madrid contract runs out in June 2027, and renewal talks have stalled, with a significant loyalty bonus reportedly tied up in any new deal.
That leaves Madrid facing a familiar dilemma, sell now for a fee, or risk losing their star winger for nothing a year from now. Real Madrid’s reported chase of RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomandé is being read in some quarters as the first sign they’re preparing cover just in case.
On the pitch, it’s easy to see why Arsenal are interested.
Vinicius has racked up 16 goals and 5 assists in La Liga this season, 21 goal contributions in total, while ranking among the league’s most productive attackers per 90 minutes. He remains one of only a handful of wingers in world football operating at a genuine match-winning level on a week-to-week basis.
For now, this is speculation with real substance behind it rather than a confirmed deal. Arsenal have shown genuine intent, but Real Madrid still hold most of the cards, and a move of this size will take months, not weeks, to play out, if it happens at all.
