Carrington sensation JJ Gabriel asks to leave Man United
Manchester United wonderkid JJ Gabriel has stunned the club by requesting the cancellation of his registration, just days after making history with a Youth League hat-trick.
Manchester United have been rocked by a surprise request from teenage sensation JJ Gabriel, who has asked for his registration to be cancelled and wants to leave the club despite being on the verge of a first-team breakthrough.
The 15-year-old, widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in United’s academy, formally notified the club of his desire to end his registration after spending the past four years developing at Old Trafford.
Gabriel’s decision comes only days after he grabbed a hat-trick on his UEFA Youth League debut against Sabah, becoming the club’s youngest scorer of a treble in the competition.
His rapid progress had raised expectations that manager Michael Carrick would give him senior minutes, with Gabriel reportedly in contention for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup meeting with Brighton.
United are understood to be surprised by the request and remain hopeful of finding a solution rather than losing the highly rated forward. The Premier League rules mean his registration cannot simply be cancelled by the club alone, with all parties required to agree or the league able to make a binding decision if there is a dispute.
Gabriel has also attracted interest from several major clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid, although no immediate destination has been confirmed.
The youngster has already enjoyed an extraordinary rise, scoring 20 league goals in 21 Under-18 appearances last season and being named the Premier League Under-18 Player of the Season.
