Carrick reveals why Mason Mount went off early in PSG draw, and provides update
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has eased concerns over Mason Mount after the midfielder was withdrawn early during the 1-1 pre-season draw with Paris Saint-Germain.
Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has played down fears over Mason Mount after the midfielder was forced off early during Saturday’s 1-1 pre-season draw with Paris Saint-Germain in Gothenburg.
Mount lasted fewer than 20 minutes before being replaced by Tyler Fletcher following a challenge.Carrick explained that Mount had been “kicked” and that United decided to withdraw him as a precaution.
The manager said the club wanted to be careful with the England international, particularly after enjoying a largely positive pre-season injury record.
The latest scare is particularly significant given Mount’s difficult injury history since joining United from Chelsea in 2023. He has endured several spells on the sidelines, restricting his opportunities to establish himself consistently at Old Trafford.
Mount’s withdrawal overshadowed an encouraging performance from United against the European champions.
PSG took the lead through Ibrahim Mbaye before Bryan Mbeumo equalised, while Carrick praised his players for adapting to the challenge as preparations continue for the new Premier League season.
