Jeff Bezos among a consortium buying over 30% Liverpool stake
Jeff Bezos is reportedly closing in on a deal to join a consortium acquiring a stake of more than 30% in Liverpool, potentially valuing the club at £4.4 billion.
Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is closing in on a deal to acquire a roughly one-third stake in Liverpool, according to multiple reports.
The consortium is led by Amit Bhatia and also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, with Fenway Sports Group preparing to announce the transaction as soon as this week.
The proposed investment could value Liverpool at around £4.4 billion, potentially making it one of the biggest deals in football.
Bhatia, the son-in-law of billionaire Lakshmi Mittal, recently held a stake in Queens Park Rangers. Bezos, meanwhile, has an estimated fortune of more than £207 billion, according to Forbes.
FSG has controlled Liverpool since purchasing the club for £300 million in 2010. The potential deal would represent a huge increase in valuation, following Dynasty Equity’s minority investment in 2023 at a valuation exceeding £3.3 billion.
FSG confirmed last month that a consortium led by Bhatia had expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment.
Sky Sports chief correspondent Kaveh Solhekol urged caution over the development, saying: “I would treat the development with some caution – until we hear why this group of investors want to invest.
People invest because they want to make money.” He added that the club could become even richer through the investment.
