Barcelona remain hopeful of signing Rodri despite £55m second bid rejection
Manchester City have rejected Barcelona’s second £55 million offer for Rodri, but negotiations remain ongoing as the midfielder continues to favour a move to Camp Nou.
Barcelona have seen a second bid worth £55 million for Manchester City midfielder Rodri rejected, although the Spanish giants remain confident a deal can eventually be reached.
The latest offer is understood to remain below City’s valuation of the 30-year-old, but negotiations between the clubs are continuing as Barcelona attempt to secure one of their priority targets this summer.
Rodri has reportedly given his approval to a move to Barcelona and has informed Real Madrid, who have also been monitoring his situation, of his preference.
The midfielder is currently recovering from a back injury, adding another layer of uncertainty to the negotiations, but his desire to return to Spain could prove significant as discussions progress.
City are also facing a developing situation involving Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, with Chelsea having set a deadline for any potential move for the Argentina international.
Manchester City have identified Fernandez as a major target and would regard him as a priority should Rodri leave, although he is not necessarily viewed as a direct replacement for the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder.
The timing of the two situations could therefore influence City’s approach to Rodri’s departure, particularly if they want clarity over the midfielder’s future before committing to further business.
Barcelona, meanwhile, appear unwilling to abandon their pursuit despite the rejection of their latest proposal, with both sides expected to remain in contact over a possible agreement.
The Catalan club’s optimism suggests negotiations could continue until a compromise is reached on the transfer fee.
