Mikel Arteta provides updates on Saka, Rice, and Zubimendi ahead of Community Shield showdown
Mikel Arteta has confirmed that Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi are available for Arsenal’s Community Shield meeting with Manchester City on Sunday.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has confirmed Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi are available for Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Manchester City.
The trio trained on Friday and are expected to continue preparations ahead of the season curtain-raiser.
The update provides a significant boost to the Premier League champions, who have endured an uneven pre-season while several players returned late from the World Cup. Arsenal will face FA Cup holders Manchester City at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.
Arteta also revealed that Jurrien Timber is progressing well in his recovery and has returned to the pitch. However, William Saliba remains sidelined with a longer-term injury, leaving Arsenal with defensive concerns ahead of the new campaign.
The Community Shield represents Arsenal’s first competitive fixture since winning the Premier League last season. Arteta’s side will be seeking another positive start against City after defeating them on penalties in the 2023 edition.
Speaking ahead of the match, Arteta also confirmed Arsenal remain active in the transfer market and could see players depart before the window closes.
The Gunners are reportedly exploring further defensive reinforcements, including Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah.
