Xabi Alonso makes Chelsea stance clear as Leeds’s Mudryk bid is rejected

Chelsea are continuing to weigh Mykhailo Mudryk’s future as Leeds United pursue a loan deal for the winger before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea are refusing to rush a decision over Mykhailo Mudryk’s future despite growing interest from Leeds United, with Xabi Alonso insisting the club will take its time before determining the winger’s next move.

Leeds have opened discussions over a season-long loan and have already seen an initial proposal rejected, although negotiations remain active and a deal has not been ruled out.

Mudryk’s situation has become one of the more intriguing late-window stories after the 25-year-old returned to football following the resolution of the anti-doping proceedings that kept him out for around 20 months.

Chelsea confirmed in July that the case had been resolved, clearing him to resume his career, and Alonso subsequently gave him a pre-season appearance against Juventus as part of his reintegration.

With Chelsea seeking the best environment for Mudryk to regain regular playing time and sharpness, a temporary departure could make sense, particularly with the winger facing strong competition for minutes at Stamford Bridge.

Leeds, meanwhile, are keen to add another attacking option after returning to the Premier League and see Mudryk as a potential solution on the flank.

The Ukrainian is reportedly attracted to remaining in England, which could strengthen Leeds’ position, although they face competition from clubs elsewhere, including Chelsea’s sister side Strasbourg.

Alonso has nevertheless made it clear that Chelsea will not be pressured into accepting an agreement that does not suit the club or player, leaving Leeds with work to do as the transfer deadline approaches.
