Official: Emiliano Martinez Completes Chelsea Move
Emiliano Martinez has officially completed his move to Chelsea, with his medical passed and contract signed at Stamford Bridge.
Fabrizio Romano confirms the deal runs until June 2028, with an option for a further season, on a £7.5m fee from Aston Villa.
The move followed Robert Sanchez’s costly errors in Chelsea’s 3-2 win over Fulham, prompting a rapid swoop, while Villa’s signing of Zion Suzuki as their new No.1 opened the door for Martinez to leave.
He departs Villa having made 256 appearances, helping them finish fourth and win the Europa League last season. Martinez remains Argentina’s first-choice goalkeeper with 67 caps, a 2022 World Cup winner and 2026 finalist.
He now gives Xabi Alonso proven, experienced competition between the posts as Chelsea continue reshaping their squad before Tuesday’s deadline.
