Michael Carrick reveals when Carlos Baleba will make his Man United debut
Michael Carrick has revealed that Manchester United may have to wait until mid-September to see new signing Carlos Baleba make his competitive debut.
Michael Carrick has revealed when Manchester United supporters could finally see Carlos Baleba make his debut after the club completed a £70 million move for the midfielder from Brighton.
The Cameroon international arrived at Old Trafford as part of United’s midfield rebuild but has been forced to wait for his first appearance because of an ankle problem suffered before completing the transfer.
Carrick has indicated that Baleba could be around two to three weeks away from returning, meaning his debut is likely to come in mid-September rather than during this weekend’s Premier League trip to Everton.
The timing could put the 22-year-old in contention for the Manchester derby on September 13, the Carabao Cup meeting with Brighton on September 16 or the league trip to Fulham on September 20.
Baleba’s arrival has generated considerable excitement at Old Trafford, with United viewing his strength, athleticism and defensive qualities as important additions to Carrick’s midfield options.
The former Brighton player made 31 Premier League appearances last season and is expected to provide greater physical presence in the centre of the pitch following Casemiro’s departure.
Carrick has also stressed that Baleba’s injury is not considered a major concern, giving United confidence that the new signing will soon be available.
With the Champions League returning to the club’s schedule, his eventual introduction could provide a significant boost to Carrick’s squad as the campaign begins to intensify.
