Jamie Vardy returns to English Football with Burnley move
Jamie Vardy has returned to English football with Burnley, taking on a new challenge as the Championship club attempt to recover from a difficult opening to the season.
Jamie Vardy has made a surprise return to English football after agreeing a season-long move to Burnley, giving the Championship club an experienced attacking option as they attempt to recover from a difficult start to the campaign.
The 39-year-old forward became a free agent after leaving Italian side Cremonese, where he spent the 2025-26 season and scored seven goals in 29 Serie A appearances despite the club’s eventual relegation.
Vardy’s arrival at Turf Moor represents another chapter in a career that has taken him from non-league football to the Premier League title with Leicester City in one of English football’s most remarkable stories.
He spent 13 years with Leicester, scoring 200 goals in 500 appearances and establishing himself as the club’s record Premier League goalscorer with 145 goals.
His performances also earned him 26 England caps and seven international goals. Burnley, meanwhile, are hoping his experience can provide an immediate boost after their return to the Championship proved difficult.
The Clarets were relegated from the Premier League last season and had struggled for results under new manager Nicky Hayen, leaving them at the bottom of the table after their opening matches.
Vardy now offers the club not only a proven goalscorer but also a player accustomed to pressure, having played a central role in Leicester’s historic 2015-16 Premier League triumph.
His move also marks a return to English football after his first season outside the country, with Burnley hoping the veteran striker can contribute goals, leadership and character during their fight to revive their campaign.
