Vincent Kompany makes blunt Ballon d’Or admission over Harry Kane and Michael Olise
Vincent Kompany has openly backed Harry Kane and Michael Olise for the Ballon d’Or, admitting his support is inevitably influenced by his position as Bayern Munich manager.
Vincent Kompany has thrown his support behind Bayern Munich stars Harry Kane and Michael Olise in the 2026 Ballon d’Or race, admitting that his choice is naturally influenced by his role at the German champions.
Kane and Olise are among four Bayern players included in the 30-man shortlist, alongside Luis Díaz and Dayot Upamecano, after impressive campaigns at club and international level.
Harry Kane has emerged as one of the leading contenders after scoring 61 goals in all competitions last season, while Olise has also established himself as one of Europe’s most influential attacking players.
Speaking after Bayern’s emphatic Champions League victory over Bodø/Glimt, Kompany made no attempt to hide his preference.
“I want my players to be successful, so I’ll do what every other coach did, I’ll be 100% biased and will say that as long as Harry Kane or Michael Olise win it, then I’m happy,” he said.
The Bayern boss also pointed to his team’s extraordinary attacking output last season, arguing that their achievements should carry significant weight even though they did not win the Champions League.
“These guys were part of a team that scored 182 goals last season and won so many football matches,” Kompany added.
His comments come as Kane is widely regarded as one of the leading candidates for the award, with the English striker having also enjoyed a productive World Cup campaign.
Kompany accepts, however, that Champions League success could influence voters, particularly because Bayern fell short in Europe. The winner will be announced at the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London on October 26.
