Jordan Henderson hospitalized in Mexico City after freak Azteca fall
England midfielder Jordan Henderson was rushed to a Mexico City hospital after sustaining a serious wrist injury from falling over an advertising board during post-match celebrations.
England’s spectacular 3-2 FIFA World Cup triumph over co-hosts Mexico was marred by a severe post-game accident involving veteran midfielder Jordan Henderson.
While approaching traveling supporters at the Estadio Azteca, the 36-year-old lost balance attempting to clear an advertising hoarding. Emergency medical personnel administered oxygen on the pitch before evacuating the distressed player via a stretcher.
The Football Association confirmed Henderson remained hospitalized in Mexico City alongside medical personnel, missing the Three Lions’ flight to Kansas City.
Manager Thomas Tuchel described the painful wrist injury as “really bad,” casting immense doubt over his continued tournament availability.
Though an unused substitute in the Round of 16 classic, his sudden, freak setback severely dampened England’s quarterfinal celebrations.
