Alex Iwobi equals Odemwingie’s Premier League record to earn Fulham maiden season win
Alex Iwobi’s deflected first-half strike ended Fulham’s winless start and drew him level with Peter Odemwingie on 36 Premier League goals as Álvaro Arbeloa earned his first victory as manager in a 1–0 win over Hull City.
Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi netted his first goal of the Premier League campaign to secure a crucial 1–0 victory for Fulham over Hull City at Craven Cottage, earning newly appointed manager Álvaro Arbeloa his first win in charge.
The decisive moment arrived in the 33rd minute of the historic 100th competitive meeting between both clubs. Following a scramble in the penalty box, Sander Berge teed up Iwobi on the edge of the area.
The Nigerian international drove a low shot that took a crucial deflection off Lucas Herrington, beating goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis at his near post.
The strike marks Iwobi’s 36th career Premier League goal in 327 appearances, placing him joint-sixth on the all-time Nigerian scoring charts alongside former West Bromwich Albion forward Peter Odemwingie.
The goal also ends a frustrating personal spell for Iwobi, who had generated 13 chance opportunities across six prior league fixtures without registering a goal involvement.
The encounter featured three Nigerian international starters, with Calvin Bassey captaining Fulham alongside Iwobi, while Semi Ajayi anchored the defence for the visiting side.
Fulham held firm despite finishing the match with ten men after Ryan Sessegnon received a late red card for a reckless challenge on Robinio Vaz.
The three points lift Fulham out of the relegation zone onto five points, providing much-needed relief for Arbeloa following a difficult start since taking over in July.
