Alex Iwobi makes Premier League history with rare three-club centurion
Alex Iwobi has joined an exclusive group of Premier League players after reaching 100 appearances for Fulham.
Alex Iwobi has written another significant chapter in his Premier League career after becoming only the fifth player in the competition’s history to make at least 100 league appearances for three different clubs.
The Nigerian midfielder reached the landmark on Saturday when he started Fulham’s London derby against Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage, completing a remarkable run that began with his boyhood club Arsenal before taking him to Everton and eventually Fulham.
Iwobi previously registered 100 Premier League appearances for Arsenal and 123 for Everton, meaning his latest outing completed an unusual triple-century achievement that only Gareth Barry, James Milner, Rory Delap, Gary Speed and now Iwobi have managed.
The milestone also highlights the longevity of Iwobi’s career in England’s top flight, having broken into Arsenal’s senior side as a young player before establishing himself as a regular at Everton and later becoming an important part of Fulham’s midfield.
His time at Craven Cottage has arguably been his most productive in front of goal, with 18 Premier League goals and 11 assists before reaching the century mark.
However, the historic occasion was overshadowed by Fulham’s result as Crystal Palace fought back from two deficits to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory. The Cottagers twice took the lead but were ultimately punished by Palace, with Ben Chilwell scoring the decisive late goal.
For Iwobi, though, the defeat could not erase the significance of the achievement.
His latest appearance underlined his consistency across more than a decade in the Premier League and placed him alongside some of the competition’s most enduring figures, adding another notable milestone to the career of one of Nigeria’s most experienced players in English football.
