Assim Madibo handed five-match ban for horror tackle on Ismael Kone
FIFA has handed Qatari midfielder Assim Madibo a five-match suspension for serious foul play after a dangerous challenge broke the leg of Canada’s Ismaël Koné during their World Cup group stage clash.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has officially handed Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo a severe five-match suspension following a review of his disciplinary misconduct on the pitch.
The stringent sanction stems from a straight red card issued during Qatar’s heavy 6-0 Group B defeat against Canada in Vancouver. Football’s global governing body confirmed the extended ban was strictly penalized for serious foul play.
The underlying incident resulted in a devastating physical toll, leaving Canadian midfielder Ismaël Koné with a broken tibia and fibula that required immediate surgical intervention.
With Qatar already eliminated from the 2026 World Cup tournament following their subsequent loss to Bosnia, Madibo will serve the remaining four matches of his suspension during upcoming official international competitive fixtures.
