Atletico Madrid reached agreement to sign Jonathan David from Juventus
Jonathan David is closing in on a move to Atletico Madrid as the Spanish side seek attacking reinforcements before the transfer window shuts.
Atletico Madrid are closing in on a deal to bring Jonathan David to Spain from Juventus, with the Canadian striker emerging as a key solution to Diego Simeone’s attacking concerns.
Recent reports indicate the clubs have reached an agreement for an initial loan containing an option to make the transfer permanent, although the final formalities still need to be completed.
The move has gathered pace with the transfer deadline approaching, while David is understood to be open to joining the Madrid club after an underwhelming start to life in Turin.
The 26-year-old arrived at Juventus in July 2025 on a five-year contract after an impressive spell at Lille, where he established himself as one of Europe’s most productive forwards.
However, his first season in Serie A failed to produce the consistency expected, and Juventus are now prepared to allow him to leave, provided they can secure another striker.
Juventus are reportedly considering Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee and Newcastle United’s Nick Woltemade as potential replacements.
For Atletico, David’s arrival could become particularly important as uncertainty continues around their forward options, with Julián Alvarez attracting interest from Barcelona and Alexander Sørloth also facing an uncertain future.
Atletico have publicly rejected the possibility of selling Alvarez to Barcelona, but the speculation has intensified as the deadline approaches.
David would offer Simeone another versatile attacking option, having demonstrated his ability to operate across the frontline during his successful years in France.
The proposed move therefore represents an opportunity for both clubs: Atletico can add a proven goalscorer without immediately committing to a permanent transfer, while Juventus can reshape their attack after David’s difficult first chapter in Italy.
