Barcelona draw up special plan for summer signing amid registration delay

Barcelona are managing the delayed first-team registration of summer signing Jesse Bisiwu by giving the teenage winger competitive minutes with the Atletic while maintaining his connection with Hansi Flick’s squad.

Barcelona are taking a measured approach with teenage winger Jesse Bisiwu as an administrative delay temporarily prevents the summer signing from making his La Liga debut, with the club instead using Barça Atlètic to keep his development on track.

Bisiwu, who joined from Club Brugge in July on a contract running until 2031, has already attracted attention for his pace, dribbling and ability to operate on either flank, while his performances at youth level earned him a place in the team of the tournament at the 2025 European Under-17 Championship.

The 18-year-old was initially brought into Hansi Flick’s first-team environment during pre-season, but the latest registration complications have prevented him from immediately competing in La Liga.

Rather than allowing the situation to interrupt his progress, Barcelona are expected to use the reserve side as a platform for regular football while continuing to monitor him within the senior setup.

Bisiwu has already demonstrated that he can contribute at a higher level, scoring twice in Barcelona’s recent 5-2 friendly victory over Basel, highlighting the attacking qualities that convinced the Catalan club to invest in him.

Barcelona’s approach is similar to the pathway previously used with other young players, allowing prospects to gain competitive experience with the reserves while remaining close enough to the first team to benefit from senior training.

The club officially described Bisiwu as a winger with considerable potential, particularly praising his power, acceleration and dribbling ability.

His immediate future may therefore involve a mixture of Barça Atlètic football and first-team training, giving Flick the opportunity to assess his readiness while the administrative issue is resolved.

For Barcelona, the priority appears to be ensuring that the promising Belgian continues developing rather than allowing a temporary paperwork problem to stall his momentum.
