Corinthians end Memphis Depay stay amid financial concerns
Dutch international forward Memphis Depay’s time at Corinthians has ended after the Brazilian club opted against renewing his contract, citing financial sustainability.
Memphis Depay has left Corinthians after the Brazilian club decided against extending his contract, ending his spell with the side after almost two years.
The decision was announced by Corinthians, who said financial responsibility and the club’s long-term sustainability influenced the move.
Depay joined Corinthians in 2024 and became an important figure during his time in Brazil. The Netherlands international helped the club win three trophies, including the 2025 Copa do Brasil and Campeonato Paulista, as well as the 2026 Supercopa do Brasil.
The forward’s relationship with Corinthians had also been affected by financial disagreements. Reports indicate the club accumulated significant outstanding payments to Depay, with the debt reportedly reaching around R$77 million, including penalties and interest.
The former Manchester United and Barcelona man finished his Corinthians career with 79 appearances, 20 goals and three trophies.
His next destination remains unclear, while Corinthians are expected to provide further details about the decision and the club’s financial position at a forthcoming press conference.
