Dani Ceballos agrees to Betis Return as free agent after Real Madrid exit
Dani Ceballos is poised to return to Real Betis on a three-year deal, but the Spanish club faces a frantic race to create salary-cap space and secure his Champions League registration.
Dani Ceballos is closing in on an emotional return to Real Betis, with the midfielder understood to have agreed personal terms with his boyhood club after bringing his Real Madrid spell to an end.
The 30-year-old is expected to sign a three-year contract with the option of a further season, in a move that would see him return to the club where he began his senior career before moving to Madrid in 2017.
Ceballos’ departure from Real Madrid came after he gave up the final year of his contract, allowing him to leave as a free agent and pursue his preferred destination.
His decision has paved the way for Betis to complete a long-awaited reunion, although the club still has significant work to do before the deal can be fully registered.
According to reports from Spain, Betis are working against the clock to reduce their wage commitments by arranging several departures, with the club also exploring ways to facilitate additional squad changes.
The financial pressure is particularly important because Ceballos is expected to become one of the highest-paid players at the Benito Villamarín.
The midfielder’s return would also add experience and technical quality to Manuel Pellegrini’s midfield, having spent several seasons competing at the highest level with Real Madrid and previously gaining Premier League experience during loan spells at Arsenal.
However, the biggest immediate concern is European registration. Although Ceballos can complete his move as a free agent after the domestic transfer window, Betis face a separate UEFA deadline for their Champions League squad.
Recent reports indicate that the club remains optimistic about completing the necessary financial manoeuvres, leaving Ceballos’ homecoming potentially just hours away from becoming official.
