Egypt eyes sixth AFCON hosting right for 2028 tournament
Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has declared the nation’s infrastructural readiness to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations, leaving the final decision to initiate the official bidding process with the Egyptian Football Association.
Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has officially declared the country’s full preparedness to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Emphasizing the nation’s world-class athletic facilities and robust organizational capabilities, a ministry spokesperson confirmed that Egypt possesses the required physical infrastructure.
The government has actively cleared the path, signaling its total backing for a prospective bid. The executive responsibility to pursue the hosting rights now shifts to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA).
To formalize the ambition, the federation must officially contact the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and submit a structured hosting request. This development follows CAF’s recent global invitation for member nations to submit bids for upcoming tournaments.
