Enzo Maresca succeeds Guardiola at Man City as Chelsea announce £17m settlement
Manchester City have officially appointed former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca as Pep Guardiola’s successor after finalizing a £17 million compensation package with the Stamford Bridge club.
Manchester City have finalized the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new manager on a three-year contract, succeeding Pep Guardiola. To secure the Italian tactician, City agreed to pay Chelsea a £17 million compensation package.
Maresca, who abruptly resigned from Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Day, also reached a separate confidential financial settlement with his former employers to resolve contract breach disputes.
Chelsea released a scathing statement expressing that they felt “let down” by the manager’s mid-season exit, noting his “head and heart were focused on another club” during their disappointing campaign.
While Maresca publicly apologized for the winter disruption, Chelsea quickly pivoted toward the future, confirming that incoming manager Xabi Alonso will take charge ahead of the upcoming season.
