Goncalo Ramos scores first Serie A goal as AC Milan beat Venezia 2-0
Summer signing Goncalo Ramos opened his Serie A scoring account as AC Milan defeated Venezia 2-0 to maintain their winning start under Ruben Amorim.
Goncalo Ramos marked his first Serie A appearance at San Siro with a decisive goal as AC Milan defeated Venezia 2-0 on Friday to make it two wins from two under Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese striker, who arrived from Paris Saint-Germain in a club-record deal reported to be worth €74 million, had endured a frustrating start to the contest after missing an early opportunity, but eventually found the breakthrough in the 69th minute with a powerful finish from a difficult angle.
His goal lifted the atmosphere inside San Siro and provided an important moment for a Milan side seeking to rebuild after missing out on Champions League qualification last season.
Ramos had already featured in Milan’s opening-day victory over Torino, but his latest strike represented his first competitive goal for the club and offered an early indication of why Amorim pushed for his arrival.
Venezia attempted to respond but struggled to create a clear route back into the contest, while Milan remained disciplined enough to protect their advantage.
The hosts eventually doubled their lead in the 89th minute when substitute Ardon Jashari’s effort deflected off goalkeeper Jesse Joronen and then Venezia defender Redouane Halhal before crossing the line as an own goal.
The result leaves Milan with maximum points from their first two league matches and gives Amorim a strong foundation as he attempts to restore the Rossoneri to the upper reaches of Italian football.
Ramos, meanwhile, will hope his breakthrough goal is the beginning of a productive spell at his new club.
Recent reports have highlighted Milan’s significant investment in their new-look squad, with Ramos representing the biggest piece of their summer rebuild.
