Ike Shorunmu issues Super Eagles warning to club-less Stanley Nwabali
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper Ike Shorunmu has warned Stanley Nwabali that his position as Nigeria’s first-choice shot-stopper is under serious threat unless he immediately secures a club to maintain competitive match fitness.
Legendary Nigerian international Ike Shorunmu has issued a critical warning to Stanley Nwabali, stating that the shot-stopper risks losing his undisputed number-one jersey for the Super Eagles if he remains a free agent.
Shorunmu emphasized that despite Nwabali’s immense, proven quality, training in isolation cannot substitute for the competitive match sharpness required at the international level. The former goalkeeper strongly advised the 29-year-old to urgently secure a permanent home.
The warning comes at a turbulent period for Nwabali, who has remained unattached since a risky decision to terminate his Chippa United contract.
Concurrently, national team manager Eric Chelle has initiated a tactical squad rebuild, leaning heavily toward active players like Francis Uzoho and Maduka Okoye.
Shorunmu noted that coaches prioritizing current form will naturally bypass inactive players, making regular, week-in, week-out club football an absolute necessity for Nwabali’s international survival.
