Lionel Messi has donated €80,000 to support reconstruction efforts in Spain’s wildfire-ravaged Sierra Oeste region near Madrid.
The Argentina captain’s contribution was announced by Madrid regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who thanked the Inter Miami star and praised his gesture of solidarity.
The donation comes as authorities continue recovery operations after wildfires scorched nearly 30,000 hectares and forced thousands from their homes.
Madrid’s regional government has also launched a €30 million emergency housing and recovery plan for affected families.
Messi has a long history of charitable work through the Leo Messi Foundation, supporting healthcare, education and disaster relief worldwide.
His latest contribution adds to ongoing efforts by public authorities, emergency services and local communities to rebuild the devastated areas.
