Marie Ngah double fires Cameroon past Mali in WAFCON opener

Marie Ngah scored twice as Cameroon defeated Mali 2-1 to make a winning start to their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign and join Ghana on three points in Group D.

Cameroon began their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Mali in Casablanca, thanks to a brace from Marie Ngah.

The forward opened the scoring in the 14th minute from a Monique Ngock assist before Mali responded through Aissata Traore, who converted a penalty just before the half-hour mark to restore parity.

Cameroon regained the lead after the break when Ngah struck again to complete her brace and secure all three points for the Indomitable Lionesses.

The result sees Cameroon move level with Ghana on three points in Group D, although the Black Queens top the standings on goal difference following their 2-0 victory over debutants Cape Verde earlier in the day.
