“Maybe my profile is not what they need” – Sadiq Umar hints at Nigeria exit
Valencia forward Sadiq Umar has revealed he is considering retiring from international football following his recent exclusion from head coach Éric Chelle’s Super Eagles squads.
Valencia forward Sadiq Umar has announced he is contemplating retirement from the Nigerian national team after being omitted from recent squads by head coach Éric Chelle.
The 29-year-old striker, who debuted for the Super Eagles in January 2022, cited the country’s abundance of attacking talents and suggested his profile might no longer align with the technical crew’s current tactical requirements.
The former Real Sociedad attacker clarified that his decision is not yet final, noting he will make a definitive choice when the upcoming European club season commences.
Umar, who has earned 11 international caps and scored one goal for Nigeria, also addressed the disappointment surrounding the team’s failed 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign, urging stakeholders to move past the setback.

I thought he was already retired tbh😭😭. The country has moved on from him.
