Nigeria’s football governing bodies and club owners have agreed to commence the 2026/27 NPFL season with opening matches scheduled between August 28 and 30, 2026.

The 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season is officially scheduled to commence in August.

Following an extensive stakeholder consultative meeting, administrators tentatively fixed the opening Matchday fixtures to kick off between August 28 and 30, aligning with ongoing efforts to maintain a synchronized, standard continental football calendar across the country.

This key decision emerged from a collaborative meeting involving leadership from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the National Sports Commission (NSC), the NPFL board, and club owners.

The harmonized timeline provides top-flight clubs, including recently inducted sides, a clear operational framework to conclude pre-season activities and manage player logistics efficiently.
