NPFL cracks down on bad debts, warns affected clubs of automatic transfer ban
The NPFL has warned 12 indebted clubs that they face an automatic transfer registration ban for the 2026/27 season if they fail to settle outstanding wages by the July 31 deadline.
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has issued an ultimatum to indebted clubs, demanding they clear all outstanding salaries and coaches’ fees by July 31, 2026.
According to the league’s official pre-season guidelines published by local media, teams must respect the rulings of the Players’ Status and Arbitration Committee (PSAC) or risk an immediate registration freeze.
Independent investigations indicate that at least 12 top-flight teams are currently violating binding player agreements.
Under these stringent enforcement directives, non-compliant clubs will be barred from registering new talent for the upcoming 2026/27 campaign.
The robust measure aims to improve professional standards, ensuring absolute compliance with local labor rights before the league resumes.
