Paolo Maldini takes control of Italy rebuild with Leonardo as key advisor
Italian football legend Paolo Maldini has officially accepted the role of FIGC Technical Director and President of Club Italia, granting him full oversight of all national teams alongside advisor Leonardo.
Italian football federation president Giovanni Malagò has officially announced that AC Milan icon Paolo Maldini has accepted the role of Technical Director.
Following consecutive failures to qualify for the World Cup, the newly restructured federation is handing Maldini sweeping authority to revitalize the country’s football infrastructure.
He will simultaneously serve as President of Club Italia, giving him complete control over all national teams.
Maldini’s comprehensive remit spans from the youth pipelines directly to the senior squad, stabilizing an administrative setup long criticized for poor long-term planning.
In a significant addition, his former Milan colleague Leonardo joins the project as a trusted technical advisor. The duo’s immediate focus over their four-year mandate will be selecting a permanent head coach to guide Italy back to global prominence.
