Roy Keane blasts World Cup families over custom jersey trend
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has heavily criticized the wives and partners of World Cup players for wearing personalized team jerseys, mockingly claiming that most of them separate a year later anyway.
Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane has sparked intense debate after launching a scathing critique against the wives and girlfriends (WAGs) of footballers competing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking on The Overlap podcast alongside Gary Neville and Ian Wright, the outspoken pundit labeled the trend of partners wearing custom jerseys bearing their significant other’s names as entirely ridiculous.
While Keane clarified that he has no issue with the players’ children wearing the shirts, he fiercely mocked the adult partners for taking photos while pointing at the names on their backs.
The Republic of Ireland legend added a controversial jibe, stating that most of the couples end up separated a year later anyway, prompting laughter and immediate pushback from co-host Ian Wright.
