Turkish journalist Burhan Can Terzi was detained by police after reporting that Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala was close to joining Galatasaray.
The report, published in July, was strongly denied by the Turkish club, which accused him of spreading misleading information about its transfer activities.
Terzi was questioned as part of an investigation launched by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office over the alleged public dissemination of misleading information.
The journalist reportedly maintained his story during questioning, insisting that his claims were based on sources he considered credible.
The case has attracted attention because transfer speculation is commonplace in football journalism, while legal action against a reporter over such claims is highly unusual.
Galatasaray had reportedly rejected the Musiala story twice before Terzi was taken into custody.
Terzi was later released without judicial restrictions after giving his statement. Musiala remains a Bayern Munich player, with no confirmed agreement linking the Germany international with Galatasaray.
The episode has nevertheless sparked fresh debate over the boundaries of transfer reporting and misinformation in football.
