Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s ACL injury compounds PSG’s injury woes in Barcelona win
Paris Saint-Germain have suffered a significant setback after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia tore the ACL in his right knee during their Champions League victory over Barcelona, while Marquinhos and Ousmane Dembele also face spells on the sidelines.
Paris Saint-Germain have been dealt a major setback after winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia suffered a serious knee injury that requires surgery, adding to the club’s growing fitness concerns following their Champions League victory over Barcelona.
The 25-year-old sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during Tuesday’s 4-2 win at the Parc des Princes. PSG confirmed on Wednesday that the Georgia international would undergo an operation in the coming days.
Kvaratskhelia was forced off in the 59th minute after an awkward landing during a challenge involving Barcelona defender Xavi Espart. He appeared to be in considerable pain as medical staff assisted him from the pitch.
Although PSG have not announced a recovery timeline, ACL injuries typically require several months of rehabilitation and could keep the winger out for the remainder of the season.
His absence represents a significant blow to manager Luis Enrique, with Kvaratskhelia having become an important figure in the club’s European campaign since arriving from Napoli in January 2025.
He has registered 29 goals and 20 assists in 91 appearances for the French champions.PSG are also facing temporary absences for captain Marquinhos and forward Ousmane Dembele, who sustained thigh injuries against Barcelona. The club expects both players to remain under treatment for several weeks.
The triple injury setback comes as PSG pursue further domestic and European success. Currently second in Ligue 1, they are scheduled to face Lyon on Sunday.
Luis Enrique must now consider alternative attacking combinations while awaiting further updates on his injured players.
