Ashley Cole to leave Cesena after 8-game nightmare
Former England star Ashley Cole is parting ways with Italian club Cesena FC after an unsuccessful eight-match tenure that yielded just one victory and drew intense backlash from local supporters.
Former England international Ashley Cole is set to leave his role as head coach of Serie B side Cesena FC after a disappointing eight-match tenure.
The 45-year-old managed only a single victory, alongside three draws and four defeats, failing to trigger an automatic contract extension. Local fans fiercely opposed his appointment from day one, even displaying critical banners at the stadium.
The decision to hire the ex-Chelsea and Arsenal defender was heavily driven by Cesena’s California-based co-owner, Mike Melby, who shared a relationship with Cole from their time at LA Galaxy.
However, Cole’s inability to secure a promotion playoff spot ultimately forced the hierarchy to part ways. General director Corrado Di Taranto confirmed the club is now methodically searching for a successor.
