The Istanbul club confirmed the 31-year-old Netherlands international will link up with their pre-season squad in Austria. However, the abrupt announcement reportedly caught Manchester City completely by surprise, as the final administrative details of the transfer were not yet fully concluded.
The versatile Dutch defender entered the final year of his contract at the Etihad Stadium following a highly successful spell yielding twelve major honors.
While Manchester City have yet to publish their official statement regarding his departure, the initial transfer fee is understood to be worth roughly £7 million. The total layout could eventually rise to £8.5 million if specific performance-based add-ons are met.
