Egypt files formal FIFA protest over controversial officiating in 3-2 knockout loss to Argentina
Following their controversial Round of 16 elimination from the World Cup, the Egyptian Football Association has filed a formal FIFA complaint seeking the immediate suspension of French referee François Letexier.
The Egyptian Football Association has lodged a formal complaint with FIFA following their dramatic 3-2 World Cup elimination by Argentina. Egyptian officials heavily disputed several critical refereeing decisions, including a disallowed second-half goal and a denied late penalty appeal.
The federation strongly contends that these pivotal errors directly altered the match’s outcome and prematurely ended their tournament run.
In its official submission, Egypt has demanded a transparent independent investigation into the officiating team’s performance. Furthermore, the federation has explicitly requested that French referee François Letexier and his assistants be suspended from officiating any remaining World Cup matches. Head coach Hossam Hassan publicly echoed these frustrations, labeling the match’s closing stages an unfair injustice.
