Infantino faces jail threat over manipulation

A Frankfurt court has ordered FIFA to halt manipulative World Cup ticketing practices after German resale platform Ticombo exposed hidden fees, pressure-tactic timers, and undisclosed sellers.

FIFA didn’t even show up to defend itself, and the court ruled against it anyway. The Frankfurt Regional Court granted Ticombo’s injunction after finding evidence of checkout prices spiking by 30%, unpausable six-minute purchase timers, and commercial sellers hiding behind FIFA’s official resale platform.

Gianni Infantino and Grafström now face fines up to €250,000 per breach, or prison time, if Germany’s ruling is ignored.

The order only bites in Germany, leaving the ongoing World Cup untouched. But Ticombo says FIFA employs opaque and potentially manipulative practices in the sale and resale of match tickets, and it’s already eyeing a Swiss legal challenge, with 2030’s tournament squarely in its sights.
